but for now, you're just another face on the dancefloor

This is the moment I met Eve . I saw her and kept smiling while looking at her necklace w/ skeptical eyes . She noticed my glare and returned a furled eyebrow look . I approached her - music blaring, saying, “I’m sorry to stare, it’s just that I couldn’t help notice your necklace, I love Vivienne, and you’re really cute, but I think this is a fake” .

I didn’t think it . I knew it . But whatever, it was my opening, my way to twist the moment into something interesting . Before you call me an asshole, understand this: I wasn’t trying to start anything. I wanted to make her laugh, I just wanted to talk to her is all . She threw her head back, laughing like we were already in on some private joke .

“Yeah, I know it’s fake,” she shot back, quick as ever . “Wanna buy me a real one ?”

That line — it killed me . Bold, shameless . I loved it . I forgot who asked who for the instagram first but we exchanged and I would see her many more times on this trip :) many times <3

I went to the bar by myself to get a drink . My eyes landed on her - Agatha . Just a short beautiful girl w/ braids, and who doesn’t love braids, right ? Later I would see her on the dance floor, she came w/ Fifi, who is Akira’s friend as well .

“I saw you at the bar earlier,” I said when she was near me, not bothering to hide that I’d been watching her . “I Love your hair—you look amazing.” She humored me “oh well thank you !” Smiling politely . Then I just blurted it out: “I’m gonna take a video of you dancing for 10 seconds”

And she laughed, a surprised little laugh, like she couldn’t believe I had the guts to say that out loud. “Sure !” . I can’t believe I always have the nerve to ask people this . (If you watch the video closely, you can spot Russell Simmons in the background. The one who skipped out of America under a cloud of accusations - just accusations though . Now he’s just living it up in Bali)

But it’s funny, you know ? Watching that video now, seeing her spinning, smiling . At that moment, it was nothing—just another random girl on a random night . But a couple of weeks from that clip ? She’d be my whole world . we would see each other every day, I would meet her son, she would come drop me off at the airport, so much emotion, talking and FaceTiming for hours on the phone, and I would even bring her back to America, yes... America !!

In a couple of weeks from this photo... we would be in love .
But for now, you’re just another face on the dance floor . isn’t that wild ?
